Gresley Colliery Youth Band

Gresley Colliery Youth Band Gresley Colliery Youth Band are an energetic, fun loving group of youngsters who formed in 2002 with the specific purpose of attracting more young people from the local community into brass bands. Originally under the Musical Direction of Senior Band bass trombonist Fay Bayliss, the band improved rapidly and regularly performed at concerts alongside Gresley Senior Band.

In July 2007, Fay stepped down as Musical Director of the Youth Band due to work commitments and passed the baton to Senior Band Eb bass player, Pete Hylton.

Early in 2010, Gresley Colliery Youth Band competed in their very first brass band competition at Butlins in Skegness. Up against much older and more established bands, the Youth Band held its own to claim 6th place. In 2011 the band competed at Butlins once again and gained a fantastic 3rd place result. The band is fully committed to continuing contesting and hope to appear again at Butlins next year when they will no doubt be fully expecting to improve on previous results.

The Youth Band rehearse at Gresley Old Hall, Church Gresley every Thursday evening from 6:45pm until 8pm and the emphasis is always on enjoyment. Players of every standard and instrument are welcome and in many cases, instrument loan and personal tuition are also available.

Parents or guardians are encouraged to stay for the rehearsal whilst perhaps enjoying a drink from the Old Hall bar facility. The Youth Band enjoy an excellent relationship with the Senior Band and it is assumed that in time, many of the youngsters will progress on to the Senior Band.

The band takes its responsibilities towards the care and welfare of its members very seriously. We have full Child Protection and Equal Opportunities policies availble to view and work hard to ensure we are fully legally compliant.
